Luke 9:44-48- Humility: True Greatness!-Pastor Liam Garvie

“I am the greatest!”  That was the claim of Muhammed Ali, the Champion boxer.  He also said, ‘it’s hard to be humble when you’re as great as I am!’  Not exactly someone with a problem with self esteem is he?  No… rather, he is someone who demonstrates the problem of pride, something we find in this week’s passage explored by Pastor Liam Garvie of St Andrews Baptist Church.  Listen in as we find out how Jesus revolutionizes the world’s definition of greatness by giving his endorsement to a life of humility, and the steamrolling of pride.  He has shown us how it’s done!

The Timeless Call: Love! - Pastor Liam Garvie

Fakes!  We hate them.  Whatever we come across that is counterfeit we can be sure it is simply deception.  It’s all lies.  And unfortunately they’re not always easy to spot.  But… if there’s one thing that you just can’t fake, if there’s one thing that when mimicked cannot go undetected, surely it is love.

Why do I say that?  Because it is evident for all to see.  If we truly love someone or something, they way we act towards that person or thing will give away what is in our heart.  Even if we put up a smokescreen for a while, or pretend for a long while, the way we behave towards that which is loved will demonstrate if it’s genuine or fake… authentic or false… true or lie.

Love is the timeless call of the Scriptures.  According to the first letter of John, it’s an old command, but it’s also a new command.  Want to test how authentic your love for God and for others is?  Listen in to Liam as he preaches on 1 John 1:7-11.

The Transforming Power of Jesus

Often when an important person arrives in a region or place they are met by a welcoming committee.  We’ve all watched pictures on TV of a VIP descending down the steps from their aeroplane to meet 2 or 3 esteemed people sent to make sure the visitor’s first experience of their country or region is a happy one.  But when we read in our passage today of Jesus and his disciples making it to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, he’s met by a very different kind of welcoming committee!

He meets a man who is dead, even though he is alive.  Listen in to Pastor Liam Garvie as he points us to the transforming power of Jesus Christ in the life of a man riddled with evil.  There is hope for us all…

Sshhh… Have Faith!

Sometimes the storms in life descend on us at a frightening pace.  It’s easy in those times to forget who it is that is residing in our hearts and we become fearful.  Sometimes the storm is left to hang for a while… always for a greater good… that is, God’s glory.  Jesus Christ is in our life and allows us to endure some storms, and through those times of fear and suffering, at just the right time, Jesus moves in a way that enables us to stand in fear and amazement.
